The SS United States was a marvel of speed, style, and American ambition. The ship made its maiden voyage in 1952. Instead of restoring the SS United States as a ship, the iconic ocean liner is deliberately sunk to become the world’s largest artificial reef — creating a new underwater ecosystem that supports marine life, attracts divers, and sparks conversation about climate and conservation.
Your challenge is to design a public awareness campaign that explains why turning the SS United States into a reef is a smart, sustainable idea — or, if you disagree, make your case for why it’s a terrible plan! Either way, you need to convince others.

Your Task:
1. Consider the benefits of artividal reefs and how the risks or challenges they pose.
2. Decide your position: Pro-Reef or Anti-Reef?
3. Create a 1-2 paragraph “campaign plan” with these parts:

  • A catchy slogan or headline (for example: “Vote to Save the SS United States!” or “See the Future — Below the Waves!”).

  • Three key points that support your position.

  • A simple idea for a visual (poster, infographic, or social media post).
