Every fall, pumpkin growers across the U.S. compete in a unique kind of contest — not for taste or looks, but for weight. The biggest event happens each October in Half Moon Bay, California, where farmers battle for the title of “Pumpkin King.” This year’s winner (2025), Brandon Dawson, grew a pumpkin weighing an incredible 2,346 pounds, almost as heavy as a small car! His prize? Over $20,000, a champion’s ring, and a stay at the Ritz-Carlton. Dawson says growing giant pumpkins has become a fun family project, and his kids love watching the pumpkins grow up to 70 pounds a day!

Your Task:
Imagine your school is hosting its own “Great Pumpkin Challenge.”
Design a creative plan or campaign that celebrates growth, patience, and teamwork, just like the real pumpkin growers. Your plan could include:

  • A contest or project where students “grow” or build something big together (like a mural, garden, or kindness campaign).

  • A fun way to track progress, celebrate milestones, or showcase teamwork.

In 1–2 paragraphs, describe your idea:

  • What would your school’s “Great Growth Challenge” look like?

  • What values or skills would it help students learn (teamwork, patience, science, community)?

  • How would you make it fun and rewarding for everyone involved?
