Social media influencers often feel just as famous as movie stars or athletes. Many teens trust influencers’ opinions on products, fashion, and even social issues more than traditional celebrities. Brands know this, too and companies now spend billions each year on influencer marketing because a single TikTok or Instagram post can launch a trend overnight. But not everyone agrees influencers should hold so much power. Some argue they promote unrealistic lifestyles, spread misinformation, or encourage overconsumption.

Your Task:

  1. Think about the role influencers play in your life and community.

  2. Do influencers have too much power, or are they simply giving people more relatable voices to follow

  3. Who do you trust more: influencers, celebrities, or neither—and why?

  4. Share your opinion on whether influencers’ power is good, bad, or a mix of both, and explain your reasoning.
