Have you ever been in a virtual meeting that felt awkward, boring, or disorganized?
Leading a meeting might sound intimidating, but it’s easier when you follow a few simple steps—and it can actually be fun.
1. Know Your Purpose
Why are you meeting? (Decide, update, plan, brainstorm?)
Write a clear goal or agenda ahead of time.
2. Prepare, Don’t Wing It
Share the agenda before the meeting.
Assign roles (leader, note-taker, timekeeper).
Test your tech: internet, mic, camera, links.
3. Start Strong
Be on time. Greet people. Share the agenda.
Set expectations: "Let’s keep it quick and interactive."
4. Keep It Moving
Watch the clock.
Call on people by name: "Alex, want to weigh in?"
Keep the energy up—don’t let things drag.
5. End with Action
Summarize decisions and next steps.
Ask: "Who’s doing what by when?"
Thank everyone and confirm when you’ll meet again.
Your Task:
Imagine you're leading a 30-minute meeting to plan a fundraiser. What’s your agenda? How would you keep it organized and on track? Write out the agenda with times. Role play the beginning of the meeting and share how it went.
