United in Celebration: Design Your Own Holiday

Ever wondered how our holidays began or why we still celebrate them today? Some of the holidays we observe are based on old, outdated traditions, or even myths. Over time, many holidays have changed to reflect what people today find meaningful. Imagine if you could create a new holiday that truly brings everyone together, honoring people of all backgrounds, religions, and beliefs. A holiday focused on kindness, creativity, or even nature might be something we all enjoy.

Your Mission: Invent a New Holiday! Either change an existing holiday or invent an entirely new one! Think about what you’d like people to celebrate and why it matters. Here’s what to include in your holiday description: 

• A Date: What season?

• A Purpose: What will people celebrate?

• Inclusivity: How can this holiday include everyone, regardless of their race, religion, or background? 

• Holiday Traditions: Describe a few activities or traditions that would make your holiday fun and meaningful. Food or decorations, for example.   

• Why It’s Important: Write a short explanation about why this holiday is important  

• Take It Further (Optional): Draw a symbol or icon for your holiday! Explain what it would look like.
