Paw-sibly Back Again?

Effort: 10 minutesImagine walking through a forest and spotting a Dire Wolf—a creature that went extinct more than 13,000 years ago. Sounds like a movie, right? But this is real-life science! Scientists have recently revived a variant of the Dire Wolf species using advanced genetics. Even more surprising: they’re working on bringing Woolly Mammoths back by 2028! This process is called de-extinction, where scientists use DNA from ancient animals and mix it with the DNA of similar modern species to recreate them. While this is an incredible scientific breakthrough, it also raises some big questions. Should we bring back animals that went extinct? What impact would they have on today’s environment? What could go right—or very wrong? Your Task: You're now part of the Extinct Animal Comeback Committee. Your job? Pick an extinct animal you'd bring back to life—and explain why. Choose an Extinct Animal: Could be a saber-toothed cat, dodo, Tasmanian tiger, or something even weirder! Create a “Comeback Profile” for this creature: 🐾 Name 📅 Year it went extinct 🌍 Where it would live today ✅ One benefit of bringing it back ⚠️ One possible risk or problem 💡 What we should do to prepare for its return Bonus (if time): Draw what your comeback creature might look like today, with adaptations for the modern world!
